EKURHULENI ENGAGES BUSINESS SECTOR ON ITS DRAFT IDP ...

The City of Ekurhuleni today (18 April 2024) met the business sector at the Germiston Lapa to present and discuss the reviewed draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Multiyear Budget for the municipality.

The reviewed IDP for 2024/25 and the multiyear budget for 2024/25 – 2026/27 were on the agenda giving the business sector an opportunity to make inputs on the current state of the city and the planned way forward.

Head  of Strategy and Corporate Planning Tsholofelo Koopedi in presenting the draft IDP and Budget highlighted that the business sector is the spine that helps keep the city afloat.

“As the greatest contributors to the City’s economy and drivers of job creation, your inputs are very important in moving our city forward,” said Koopedi. 

The city’s guests, having been taken through the draft documents, welcomed plans to seek alternative energy as this would positively impact stabilising the grid and boost production.

“Without stable and predictable power supply, production suffers. Therefore  employment opportunities cannot be created which is the key objective that we discussed today. Therefore, I request that the city intensifies its plans to address the energy supply inturptions speedily,”  said Andrew Woods from Premier Fast Moving Goods.

Representatives from various industries requested the city go back to the negotiation table with Eskom to take back control of load-shedding and look into the issue of energy curtailment so that production is not affected extensively.

The last leg of the IDP engagements will be held with the youth on Friday, 19 April, at the Germiston Lapa at 12h00.
