One of the greatest performers of this generation, Chris Brown proved his legendary status yet again. Nearly two decades after his debut, he shook a sold-out crowd of 90,000 at one of Africa’s largest stadiums. His Chris Brown Live in Johannesburg show wasn’t just the best event of 2025—it might be one of the most memorable in the past five years.

Chris’s self-titled debut album dropped in 2005, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, with the lead single Run It! dominating the Hot 100 for five weeks. Watching his performance last night, however, you’d think he was still hustling for a record deal.

Despite the rain trying to dampen the mood, fans were undeterred, determined to witness a night they’d never forget.

Chris Brown delivered an electrifying set that spanned his entire discography. From early classics like Run It! to his latest chart-toppers, he gave the audience everything they wanted—and more.

One standout moment was his breathtaking leap to a secondary stage at the back of the stadium during his 2007 hit With You. The crowd erupted, singing along to every word, proving their unwavering dedication. A fan even held up a sign that read, “FXXK SUPER BOWL, THIS IS BREEZY BOWL.”

The show featured 18 dancers who brought their A-game to every performance. Among them, Tyler Terry stood out, dressed in Lakers gear with Kobe’s iconic number 24—a clear crowd favorite. South Africans have always had a soft spot for her, but the entire dance crew delivered a flawless display of energy and precision.  Chris also incorporated a touch of South African culture, blending Amapiano beats into his set to keep the crowd moving.

The night was packed with hits that defined eras. From 2011’s Deuces to 2012’s Strip, Chris reminded everyone why he’s still at the top of his game. The DJ kept the energy alive during breaks, playing South African classics like Brenda Fassie’s Weekend Special, Riky Rick’s Boss Zonke, and Mgarimbe’s Sister Bethina.

Americans may have the Super Bowl, but Chris Brown gave South Africa a performance for the history books. It would take Michael Jackson himself to match this level of stage presence—but since that’s no longer possible, Chris reigns supreme as the king of the stage, pop, and dance.

The show lasted a phenomenal 2 hours and 15 minutes, with Chris delivering nonstop energy. He closed the night with unforgettable performances of No Air, Loyal, and Forever, leaving fans in awe.

“Johannesburg, I love you guys so much. This means the world to me! I’ve waited my whole life for this opportunity,” Chris told the audience, cementing the emotional connection between him and his South African fans.
