The Chiefs of Ontario and Indian & Cowboy Creative Media are seeking two student researchers to work on an upcoming documentary. As a leading First Nations advocacy organization in Canada, the Chiefs of Ontario offers a dynamic and enriching opportunity for those interested in First Nations politics, storytelling and history.
This documentary celebrates and honors the 50th anniversary of the Chiefs of Ontario (COO), highlighting major milestones in First Nations’ achievements and resistance.
Through personal stories, archival footage, and interviews with key leaders, the documentary chronicles the journey of First Nations in Ontario and their long and storied history of political advocacy. It showcases their resilience, cultural revival, and ongoing battle for inherent jurisdiction and sovereignty. The documentary is intended to uplift the tremendous work and achievements of First Nations over the last 50 years and will consider where First Nations are going over the next 50 years. Bringing this together in a compelling narrative will bring greater understanding of the events that have come to shape the country we live in today to First Nations and the public alike.

LOCATION: 468 Queen St East, Toronto, hybrid negotiable
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This internship will focus on:
Archival research Locating and cataloging archival materials and footage from a wide array of sources Building relationships and conducting interviews with First Nations individuals, communities, Elders and Youth. The successful candidate will assist in researching half a century of First Nations politics in Ontario which will include conducting interviews Filing freedom of information requests, gathering public records from courts and government departments Conducting online database research Combing archives and social media for relevant materials Filing regular memo updates detailing research findings. Interns will have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to research direction constructing the overall documentary narrative. Possibility for some travelQUALIFICATIONS:

The internship will be a mix of remote and in-person work.

REMUNERATION: Each position pays $25/hour for a total of 400 hours and a total compensation of $10,000 for the internship period. Full- and part-time options available.
DURATION: Start in January 2025 and until hours are fulfilled.
Successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada.
