Chidimma Adetshina to Relocate to Nigeria Following Miss Universe ...
Chidimma Adetshina, the 23-year-old beauty queen who recently secured the first runner-up position at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, has announced her decision to relocate to Nigeria. This move follows the South African Department of Home Affairs’ decision to cancel her and her mother’s identity and travel documents.
Home Affairs’ Decision on Identity Documents
The Department of Home Affairs has stated its intention to revoke the South African identity and travel documents of Chidimma Adetshina and her mother. This action stems from an investigation into the authenticity of their citizenship status. The department’s findings have been handed over to the Hawks for further action, with potential fraud charges being considered.
Adetshina’s Response and Relocation Plans
In response to the department’s decision, Adetshina expressed her intention to move to Nigeria. During a press conference, she stated, “I haven’t seen my family yet… I’m really looking forward to that… I don’t have any animosity towards South Africa because, at the end of the day, it is still a place that I call home, no matter how painful it is to say it.”
Miss Universe Achievement
Adetshina’s performance at the Miss Universe pageant was historic for Nigeria. She not only secured the first runner-up position but also received the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, being the highest-ranked contestant from Africa.
Background and Controversy
Earlier this year, Adetshina faced scrutiny over her citizenship status during her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant. Questions arose regarding her eligibility, leading to an investigation by the Department of Home Affairs. The department’s probe revealed potential issues with her mother’s acquisition of South African citizenship, resulting in the decision to revoke their identity documents.
