Lauren James is a doubt for Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final first leg away to Barcelona on Saturday after missing Wednesday’s 3-0 win against Aston Villa with a foot injury.
Emma Hayes, the Chelsea manager, gave little away about James’s condition after her side had returned to the top of the Women’s Super League. However, she did reveal that James did not train on Tuesday and that her status for the first leg of a pivotal, legacy-defining tie for Hayes will not be known until Friday.
