The Reds followed up their 3-1 victory over the former in gameweek one with a 2-0 success against the tournament debutants at Anfield on Wednesday night, with goals in each half from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah ensuring Arne Slot's side cemented itself in fifth-place following the second round of fixtures.

Liverpool is one of just seven teams to win its opening two games of the revamped league phase and remains well on course to finish inside the top eight and secure its passage to the knockout stages. However, a Champions League supercomputer predicts otherwise.

Despite claiming a maximum six points against Serie A sides AC Milan and Bologna, Liverpool is still predicted to finish outside the top eight, according to CSDB.gg. The Reds still have games against six more sides to come, but aren't expected to pick up more than two wins.

The supercomputer has predicted Slot's side to win two, draw two and lose two of its remaining games against RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Girona, Lille and PSV Eindhoven, seeing them drop down to 12th come the end of the league phase campaign - and two points outside the top eight.

It means the Reds will have to overcome a two-legged knockout phase play-off to make it through to the next stage, although finishing 9th-16th ensures they enter the draw as one of the seeded sides and will be drawn against a team placed below them in 17th-24th.

According to the CSDB supercomputer, Liverpool will come up against French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the knockout phase play-offs, but will overcome the Ligue 1 side with a 2-1 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 1-0 at Anfield before drawing 1-1 at the Parc des Princes.

Next up for the Reds is a last 16 tie with Italian side Juventus, where the 2019 winners dispatch their Serie A opponents with a 4-2 victory over two legs, setting up a tasty quarter-final clash with Premier League title rivals Arsenal.

After losing the first leg 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, Liverpool flips the tie on its head by reversing the scoreline at Anfield and eventually progresses with a penalty shoot-out victory after the scores were tied 3-3 on aggregate.

Slot's side then lock horns with another Premier League title rival in Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals - this time progressing to the final without the need for spot-kicks after a 2-1 aggregate victory. Despite losing the first leg 1-0 at the Etihad, the Reds turn on the style at Anfield to secure a 2-0 win and progress to the showpiece finale.

It is there where Liverpool comes up against Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, which has seen off Sparta Prague, holders Real Madrid and Italian champions Inter Milan to reach the final for the first time in its history. As it happens, though, Liverpool emerges victorious with a 2-1 win to add another Champions League trophy to the collection.
