The decommissioned Athlone power station, which stopped generating power in 2003, could be used for renewable and sustainable energy solutions.
At a recent energy and climate change portfolio committee meeting, the City of Cape Town tabled a report to discuss the potential redevelopment of the 36ha site, which is strategically located along the N2 between Pinelands and Kewtown in Athlone.
According to the report, the site had been previously earmarked for catalytic investment and housing development, with planning processes carried out in 2010 and 2016.
