Cape Town City beats Sekhukhune to book spot in MTN-8 semis ...
Cape Town City FC has officially become the third team to book its place in the semi-finals of this season’s MTN 8.
The Citizens narrowly beat a stubborn Sekhukhune United 1-0 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane to advance to the semis.
Babina Noko joins Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch F.C.
The winners of the MTN 8 are guaranteed a whooping R10 million.
The Citizens were awarded a penalty after a foul in the danger area late in the match.
But Venezuelan Darwin Gonzalez was denied an almost stellar goal by the crossbar with keeper Badra Sangare well beaten.
There were no goals at half-time.
Then City got another lifeline from another penalty kick after a handball in the danger area by Sekhukhune’s midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize very late in the match.
This time Gonzalez redeemed himself by scoring from the spot kick.
