Suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane failed to produce any evidence directly implicating her impeachment inquiry chairperson Qubudile Dyantyi or ANC chief whip Pemmy Majodina in what she claims is a corrupt plot to make that investigation "go away".

But she insists WhatsApp messages and audio recordings, allegedly of late Section 194 inquiry committee member Tina Joemat-Pettersson seeking to extort money from her husband David Skosana, are enough to justify Dyantyi’s removal and the quashing of the protracted and expensive probe into allegations of misconduct and incompetence against her.

While expressing sympathy for Joemat-Pettersson’s grieving family, who have stated that her exact cause of death remains unknown, Mkhwebane contended that – had she not faced an impeachment inquiry, been suspended and had her multiple legal challenges to these processes almost universally dismissed by the courts – Joemat-Pettersson "would still be alive".
