Burnley vs Man United final score, highlights, result as Bruno ...
Manchester United ended their run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions and won in the Premier League for the first time since August 26 as a masterful volley from Bruno Fernandes sent Burnley to the bottom of the table at Turf Moor.
Portugal playmaker Fernandes met a searching long ball from defender Jonny Evans and finished emphatically from a tight angle on the stroke of halftime to give his side their first away points of the season with the only goal of a nervy victory.
Evans, making his first start for the club since 2015 after rejoining United during the summer, thought he had headed the opener before Fernandes struck but was denied by a VAR decision that deemed Rasmus Hojlund had been offside from United's corner.
Seeking their first win of the season after picking up their first point with a draw at Nottingham Forest on Monday, Burnley bossed possession and struck a post through Zeki Amdouni during the first half.Burnley vs Man United result 1st half 2nd half Goal scorers Burnley 0 0 — Man United 1 0 Bruno Fernandes (45)
Visiting goalkeeper Andre Onana had already thwarted Amdouni by then with a fine save, plunging to his right to prevent the Switzerland international's free header from reaching the far corner of his net.
Hojlund, who scored his first goal for United in their 4-3 defeat at Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, showed his frustration after narrowly failing to meet Diogo Dalot's inviting delivery across the face of goal shortly after the restart.
The result lifted United to eighth ahead of two games in a week against one of the sides they rose above, hosting Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and the league on Sunday.
Burnley are two points behind 17th-placed Bournemouth and now face three away games in eight days, starting at Salford City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and heading to Newcastle United on Saturday. They then travel to fellow top-flight newcomers Luton Town on October 3.

WHAT A FINISH FROM BRUNO FERNANDES! ????
Manchester United take the lead against Burnley thanks to a brilliant assist from Jonny Evans and an even better finish from Bruno! pic.twitter.com/qMdAxzZGwO
Stopping the rot was the priority for United after a dreadful run. Their defeat at Bayern, compounded by a terrible Onana mistake, arrived hot on the heels of a comprehensive 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last Saturday and a late defeat by the same scoreline at Arsenal.
Their 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on 19 August came in between a fortunate 1-0 victory against Wolves and a rescue act at home to Nottingham Forest when they recovered from two goals behind after four minutes to win 3-2.
Missing several players through injury and deprived of Antony and Jadon Sancho because of situations off the pitch, Ten Hag and his squad were under pressure and in no position to choose the manner of ending their slump.
Onana received justifiable criticism and was clearly upset with his performance at Bayern, but the goalkeeper was back to his best when he turned Amdouni's header away, although he had a reprieve when Burnley's slick passing allowed the Premier League rookie to slide a shot beyond him and test the woodwork.
A proud night for Jonny ????#MUFC || #BURMUN pic.twitter.com/Yt2IvW0qYh— Manchester United (@ManUtd) September 23, 2023
Burnley could have counted themselves unlucky not to have been at least level at half-time, and their lack of cutting edge cost them once the action restarted, failing to greatly trouble Onana and his defence from useful opportunities.
Hugely promising 19-year-old Luca Koleosho was a threat with his pace and skill, attacking a defence deprived of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire through injury and relying on Evans, at 35, alongside Victor Lindelof at centre-back.
Approaching three minutes of injury time at the end of an uncomfortable opening period, the unlikely figure of Evans turned provider for his first United assist in 10 years and seven months.
Floating between home defenders Charlie Taylor and Jordan Beyer, Fernandes collected Evans' aerial pass and smacked in the classy winner. An unconvincing performance will be secondary to United's relief at a badly-needed win.
67: We keep pushing on at Turf Moor as we look for an equaliser ???? pic.twitter.com/VrCskRm8sV— Burnley FC (@BurnleyOfficial) September 23, 2023 Man United fixtures give cautious cause for optimism
The key stats from Turf Moor and the season as a whole still make troublesome reading for United.
Burnley had almost 62% of play, 12 of the 23 shots and far more accurate passes and passes inside their opponents' half than the visitors, who took the lead for the first time in almost five hours of football.
United's advantage lasted a minute when they went ahead at Arsenal four games ago, and their comeback against Forest represented the only game of their six in the Premier League this season when they have scored more than once.
Hannibal Mejbri scored an excellent consolation strike against Brighton and Ten Hag described the 20-year-old as doing a "perfect job" after starting against Burnley.

Loan signing Sofyan Amrabat also made his debut, although his introduction was the result of a hamstring injury for Sergio Reguilon, who provided Evans' disallowed goal with a vicious corner.
Ten Hag was insistent in his praise of his players afterwards and has Mason Mount to return, the midfielder resuming training this week following injury.
The Dutchman will also be optimistic because of the run of six home games in seven ahead of United. Of their next 10 league matches, only Palace and leaders Manchester City, who visit Old Trafford on October 29, are currently in the top half of the table.
They also host the two weaker teams in their Champions League group, Galatasaray and Copenhagen, in October. If United can hit form, their fixture list could put them in a much stronger position by the time they head to Liverpool on December 16.

Fulltime: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Manuel Benson, who won that freekick, cuts inside from the right and curls a shot into Andre Onana's arms.
The final whistle blows! It wasn't the prettiest, but United will definitely take this win and clean sheet.
Burnley can probably take more encouragement than their opponents from their performance, but they couldn't find a way through and are now bottom of the table after losing their fourth home game out of four this season.
90 +3 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
One last chance for Burnley as Sofyan Amrabat concedes a foul near the penalty area.
This will probably be the last kick of the game.
90 +1 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
There will be four minutes of added time. Ally McCoist, making his assessment on TNT Sports, reckons Bruno Fernandes is the Player of the Match,

85 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Marcus Rashford meets a glorious long pass through the centre from Hannibal - hit with the outside of his foot - and charges into the penalty area.
Rashford cuts inside and finds space to shoot. Josh Cullen does well to block the danger behind.
82 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Burnley go as close as they have all half, substitute Sander Berge meeting a promising corner in front of goal.
The delivery appears to come off his shoulder and loops off the bar. That sums up his side's threat from good positions since the restart.
81 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Connor Roberts stands over Hannibal and berates him after the United midfielder goes down theatrically over very little.
He was trying to win the ball off Roberts alongside Marcus Rashford.
79 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Now Sergio Reguilon has to make way, providing another injury problem for Manchester United.
Raphael Varane replaces him and doesn't have too much to worry about in his first taste of the action as Burnley do little with a corner.
77 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Sergio Reguilon pulls up with a hamstring problem inside United's box. He trudges off, then decides to come back on.
74 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
It's perhaps a surprise that they've taken so long to do it, but Burnley make up for lost time with a triple substitution.
Jay Rodriguez, Jacob Bruun Larsen and Sander Berge are on for Luca Koleosho, Zeki Amdouni and Aaron Ramsey. Those three departees were more of a threat before the break.
71 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
The possession figures look good for Burnley, even if the scoreline doesn't: they had 68% of play during the first 15 minutes of this half.
68 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Burnley have lacked a cutting edge in this second half. They win a corner when United clear a cross from which the hosts should probably have created more danger, then do little with a corner.

62 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Substitutes could be on the way for Burnley. Jay Rodriguez and Sander Berge are conspiring on a sideline.
Diogo Dalot does well on the right again, showing nimble feet to enter the penalty area before clipping a cross over Bruno Fernandes' ahead.
The ball falls to Scott McTominay just outside of the penalty area, and his low shot is easy for Andre Onana to claim.
60 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Mike Tresor attacks down the right, looks up and sees a lack of options.
The deadline day signing is known for his assists but he'd have needed considerable magic to have conjured one there.
58 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Brilliant, goal-saving play from Ameen Al-Dakhil!
Marcus Rashford nods a pass towards Rasmus Hojlund in front of goal at the far post. The 21-year-old defender hooks the danger behind in the nick of time.
55 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Luca Koleosho tries to cut inside from the right, over-runs the ball and clatters Sergio Reguilon, who's not impressed that the wideman doesn't receive a booking.
Reguilon does that dreadful pantomime of waving an imaginary card, and is, himself, cautioned for his trouble. Bravo.
52 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
A replay of that fizzing low cross from Diogo Dalot suggests that Rasmus Hojlund should have scored, diving in well but not reaching the ball with a boot.
Hojlund slapped the turf in annoyance. He scored at Bayern Munich on Wednesday and would have loved another one there.
51 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Now Burnley try to build. Zeki Amdouni, who went close twice during the first half, looks for an opening in a good position on the left, then plays the ball back so his side can build again.
49 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Diogo Dalot whips in a dangerous cross as United enjoy the best early attacking spell of the early part of the second half.
46 mins: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Burnley restart the action and keep the ball inside their own half for the first two minutes of the second period. Perhaps they've been told at halftime to calm their play down, on the evidence of this sequence.
Halftime: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Rasmus Hojland misses with a shot from inside the area deep into the allocated three minutes of added time, and the whistle for the interval sounds.
That was an entertaining half. Burnley had the better of large parts of it and would have gone ahead but for Zeki Amdouni's finish coming off a post.
Andre Onana had already thwarted Amdouni once by then, but United also thought they led when Jonny Evans headed in, only for an offside call to deem it invalid.
Evans then turned provider for Bruno Fernandes to open the scoring with a sweet volley just before the break. That put United ahead for the first time in almost five hours of football in all competitions.
45 mins +1: Burnley 0-1 Man United
Jonny Evans may have been denied a goal because of that VAR decision on his first United start for eight years, but now he's got an assist – a superb diagonal aerial pass from just past the halfway line onto the run of Bruno Fernandes.
The Portugal playmaker still had a lot to do, as they say, but he did well to drift into a position between defenders Charlie Taylor and Jordan Beyer and even better to wallop his volley past James Trafford from a tight angle.
A classy strike.
45 mins: GOAL – Burnley 0-1 Man United (Bruno Fernandes)
United are ahead with a terrific finish!
44 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
"I'm disappointed, I must say," says former Scotland international Ally McCoist when he's asked about United's performance on TNT Sports.
McCoist reckons, with some justification, that Burnley have been on the front foot more and can consider themselves a tad unlucky not to be ahead.
42 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
A huge roar from the home fans as Aaron Ramsey approaches the penalty area in front of Victor Lindelof and curls a shot towards goal.
Andre Onana shifts a step or two and claims reasonably comfortably, albeit needing a second attempt to do so.
41 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Burnley's fans want a penalty for a challenge by Casemiro to stop Luca Koleosho bursting clear inside the penalty area.
Replays show it was a precise interception.
40 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Burnley will be encouraged by the success they've had on the right recently. Josh Brownhill tries to create trouble with a clever chipped pass into the penalty area, and United narrowly see it behind for a goal-kick.
38 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Both teams have been somewhat ragged wihen they've been within sight of the opposition penalty area.
This time, Luca Koleosho fashions some space outside of United's box and drags a low shot well wide.
36 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
United, for once, dictate the pace of the game, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof exchanging passes beyond the halfway line, then helping the ball back to Andre Onana.
The goalkeeper lofts an attempted pass forward, which Burnley win but knock into the path of Marcus Rashford inside their half. He tries to charge toward the penalty area but is dispossessed.
34 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Burnley win two corners in quick succession. That's four of the five between these teams that have gone to them.
Vincent Kompany appears to be sitting on a box as he watches Bruno Fernandes clear the delivery away for a throw-in to his side, level with United's penalty area.

Marcus Rashford sends a low pass into the feet of Rasmus Hojlund inside the penalty area, who turns and rolls a shot wide of the near post.
Burnley's fans respond with mocking cheers.
29 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Luca Koleosho, Burnley's lightning-heeled 19-year-old, chases a dangerous pass deep in United territory on the right.
He clips Sergio Reguilon and is penalised.
27 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
The goal doesn't count because Rasmus Hojlund is adjudged to have been offside when Jonny Evans headed that corner in.
A reprieve for Burnley!
25 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
On his first start for Manchester United since 2015, Jonny Evans looks to have glanced his side ahead from close range!
There's a VAR check, almost inevitably. Referee Tony Harrington trundles across to take a look at the pitchside monitor, and former Scotland international Ally McCoist, speaking on TNT Sports, says it won't count.
24 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Burnley have had almost two-thirds of possession so far.
Bruno Fernandes wins a corner for Manchester United. Sergio Reguilon will take.
22 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
That Zeki Amodouni strike that came off a post means Manchester United have been saved by the woodwork on four occasions this season.
Everton and Luton Town are one ahead of them in that regard, with Bournemouth a further three ahead as the runaway leaders.
19 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
An early substitution: Johann Gudmundsson, who's looked bright early on, is replaced by new Burnley signing Mike Tresor, making way through injury.
Manager Vincent Kompany has a conciliatory word with Gudmundsson, who must be annoyed at having to go off – especially with his team playing well.
16 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Burnley hit the post! A lovely move featuring intricate, incisive one-touch passing culminates in Aaron Ramsey playing Zeki Amodouni clear inside the box.
The forward's low diagonal finish beats Andre Onana but not a post, rolling away.
13 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Diogo Dalot is booked for bringing down Luca Koleosho as the winger goes past him.
Not great news for United to have a fullback booked so early.
11 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
A bit of end-to-end action for the first time following that good chance for Burnley. Hannibal tries a backheel after entering the penalty area, but it doesn't reach Rasmus Hojland with plenty of space inside the Clarets' penalty area.
The hosts clear.
9 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Andre Onana rescues Manchester United!
Birthday boy Connor Roberts exchanges a sharp one-two with Johann Gudmundsson, then cuts back a rising cross from the byline to Zeki Amdouni, who's unmarked just inside the penalty area.
Amdouni plants a fine header down into the turf and up towards the right corner of Onana's goal. The Cameroon keeper springs up to push the effort away.
7 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
A stat on that early shot off target by Marcus Rashford: only Erling Haaland, with 29, has had more attempts than the Manchester United striker in the Premier League so far this season.
Only six of Rashford's have been on target, and he's scored once.
5 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
This has been a quiet start to a game between two sides in a mild state of desperation – Burnley to end their losing start to the season at home, United to improve on a run of three defeats in four Premier League matches, plus that 4-3 loss at Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
The action hasn't quite matched the levels of anticipation in the stands yet.
3 mins: Burnley 0-0 Man United
Aaron Ramsey escapes on the right near the corner flag in the first chance for Burnley to create danger. His low cross, alas for the hosts, is straight to Andre Onana in United's goal.
1 min: Burnley 0-0 Man United
First chance to Man United, who win possession just outside the Burnley area, allowing Hannibal space to charge towards the box.
The Tunisia international releases Marcus Rashford to his left, who fires a shot into the side-netting. Pressure paid off for United, there.
1 min to kickoff: The teams are out and in their halves! There's a tangible buzz around the stadium, which has been Burnley's home since the 19th century.
20 mins to kickoff: "There's a big separation between the top teams and the other sides in this league," Burnley boss Vincent Kompany tells TNT Sports. "We're up against a top team and I want to see a solid performance – hopefully we'll get a result for the fans."
Asked whether his hero status at Manchester City gives him extra incentive in this game, Kompany smiles: "I try to do the job for Burnley. That's my priority and I don't need any extra motivation. There's a lot of work gone into this game and I want them to show it today."

40 mins to kickoff: Ex-United captain Rio Ferdinand is at Turf Moor and having a chat with TNT Sports.
"You can't be making excuses," he says of his former team's travails. "The players who are out on the pitch should be good enough to be taking the points. They haven't been this season."
1 hour to kickoff: Team news! Here's how Burnley start, with Zeki Amdouni alone up front in the absence of the suspended Lyle Foster, who was shown a straight red card at Nottingham Forest on Monday.
Connor Roberts starts in defence on his 28th birthday.
(4-2-3-1): Trafford (GK) – Roberts, Beyer, Al Dakhil, Taylor – Cullen, Brownhill – Gudmundsson, Ramsey, Koleosho – Amdouni
Jonny Evans, who rejoined Manchester United in the summer, is in defence for the visiots, and Hannibal Mejbri, who scored a superb consolation goal in the 3-1 home defeat to Brighton last Saturday, also starts.
(4-3-1-2): Onana (GK) – Dalot, Evans, Lindelof, Reguilon – Hannibal, Casemiro, McTominay – Fernandes – Rashford, Hojlund
1 hour 20 mins to kickoff: Let's take a look at how Man United feel about this game – last season's Red Devils top scorer, Marcus Rashford, has been talking about their dreadful run.
"We're the ones on the pitch and you don't want anything more than to get back to that standard that you know you can be at," the striker told the club website. "And when you get there, you want to push on. So for us, it's about finding that again. And the only way to do it is sticking together as a team.
"No matter which 11 is playing, who's on the bench, that's the squad. And we're going to need this squad to win this game.
"I don't care what role you have to play in the squad or what your role is in the management, when Man United are losing games , it's a difficult place to be. And from periods when we've been in this situation before, there's only one way out.
"Each individual has to look at themselves in a mirror and say that they'll give everything for the badge. You know you've got the ability, otherwise you wouldn't be here. So we need to tighten up a few things in our defensive organisation, right from the front all the way to the back, and just play the game."

1 hour 40 mins to kickoff: Burnley chairman Alan Pace - made more recognisable to many by the TV documentary, Mission to Burnley - says he was "proud" of Burnley's 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest on Monday.
"It was a game full of talking points but I’m pleased to get our first point on the board," Pace adds in the programme for tonight's match. "While we have endured a challenging start to the campaign, there have been positives we can take forward and I felt that for large periods of the match, you could really see what we are building here.
"Our new signings are showing excellent signs and I’m excited to see the progress Vincent and the team will undoubtedly continue to make moving forward."
Kompany, meanwhile, has used his programme notes to emphasise that this season is "all about improvement" for his side.
"We hope you saw that at Nottingham Forest," he writes. "The better our players get, the bigger the impact they will have.
"This journey is not without challenges but this makes it the most exiting path to be on and hopefully we can surprise more than a few people."
2 hours to kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of the final Premier League game of Saturday's fixtures between Burnley and Manchester United.

Forward Michael Obafemi and defender Hjalmar Ekdal are long-term injuree absentees for Burnley, but Anass Zaroury returned from the bench at Forest.
Aaron Ramsey started against Man United following an injury issue, having remained an unused substitute at the City Ground. Zeki Amdouni was alone up front in the absence of the suspended Lyle Foster, who was suspended for a straight red card.
Connor Roberts started in defence on his 28th birthday.
Burnley lineup (4-2-3-1): Trafford (GK) – Roberts, Beyer, Al Dakhil, Taylor – Cullen, Brownhill – Gudmundsson, Ramsey, Koleosho – Amdouni
United boss Erik ten Hag's injury list continued to grow, with defenders Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire ruled out of the 4-3 defeat at Bayern in United's Champions League opener and Lisandro Martinez reportedly missing this fixture due to continued pain in his foot. None of the three featured in his squad against Burnley.
Alongside a host of injuries, Jadon Sancho is not currently involved with the United first team due to a disciplinary issue, with Antony taking a leave of absence to contest allegations of domestic violence in Brazil, which he strongly denies.
Raphael Varane and Mason Mount returned to training a day before the defeat to Bayern, with the France international on the bench at Turf Moor. Kobbie Mainoo and Sofyan Amrabat had been working individually and were not ready to return.
Facundo Pellistri was handed his full Champions League debut on the right wing, with Scott McTominay only a substitute – Ten Hag left Pellistri on the bench but started Hannibal, as well as introducing Jonny Evans in defence.
