On paper, the Bulls’ 59-19 goring of Lyon in the Champions Cup round of 16 at Loftus on Saturday instinctively looks like something to hugely laud.

It is not every day that Jake White’s charges can boast flying back across hemispheres from a 33-point defeat at the hands of Leinster in the parallel-running United Rugby Championship and effectively executing a 73-point swing in fortunes for themselves.

Yes, they had the benefit of an eight-day turnaround to the broader European knockout clash – the top-of-table URC clash in Dublin had been on the Friday – but that still does little to negate the impact of the widely-known, special travel hazards facing South African franchises whenever they go abroad for games in either competition.

South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future. News24 has kept the country informed for 25 years, and we're about to enter a new chapter of fearless journalism.
