World Cup winner Benjamin Mendy is back in France's top flight! After a successful stint across the Channel with Manchester City, the defender from Longjumeau in the south of Paris has signed a two-year deal with Brittany outfit FC Lorient.

Benjamin Mendy has joined FC Lorient! The Brittany club announced on Wednesday that the French international left-back has signed on for two seasons. The 29-year-old former AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille player will wear the No.5 shirt for Les Merlus.

A 2018 world champion with Les Bleus, Mendy has also won four Premier League titles with Manchester City and a Ligue 1 Uber Eats title with AS Monaco. He will be competing with Vincent Le Goff to be coach Régis Le Bris's left-back.

After coming up through the academy at Le Havre, Benjamin Mendy made his Ligue 1 Uber Eats debut ten years ago, when he signed for Olympique de Marseille (2013-2016). After three seasons with the southern giants, the left-back moved to Monaco, where he became French champion in 2017, in addition to a superb run in the Champions League and a semi-final loss to Juventus (0-2, 1-2).

Martin on the move

Meanwhile, journeyman midfielder Jonas Martin has joined a new Ligue 1 Uber Eats club. After terminating his contract with LOSC, the 33-year-old - who has also played for Montpellier, Amiens, Rennes and Strasbourg - signed a two-season deal with Stade Brestois 29 on Wednesday.
