Belgium vs Italy LIVE: Updates from UEFA Nations League clash
BELGIUM 0-1 ITALY - REPORT
Italy are through to the UEFA Nations League knockout stages for the third tournament in a row after maintaining their unbeaten record in this year’s competition with a 1-0 win over Belgium.
The visitors were dominant from the first whistle, and it was no surprise when they took the lead 11 minutes in as Sandro Tonali tapped home his first international goal.
It was not until after half time that The Red Devils started to find their feet from an attacking sense, as Arne Engels, Zino Debast and Leandro Trossard all tried their luck from outside the area.
Mateo Retegui was then denied at the other end by a brilliant save, before Trossard saw a hooked volley from the edge of the box tipped around the post.
The closing stages were just as hectic, with Belgium creating a string of openings, only for Romelu Lukaku to head wide and see another shot blocked, before Wout Faes hit the post as Italy clung on for a big victory.
