Josip Stanišić remaining upbeat after injury in training for Bayern ...

Bayern Munich

Unfortunately for Bayern Munich, defender Josip Stanišić suffered a torn collateral ligament in his right knee during a training session on Monday ahead of the club’s 4-0 friendly win over Grasshopper Club Zürich. The Croatian defender has already had a successful operation in Munich to repair the ligament damage sustained in the injury, but he will now face a considerable spell on the sidelines, as the club has already confirmed.

After the operation, Stanišić took to his personal Instagram page to express his positive attitude despite facing a considerable setback.

Unfortunately, I suffered an injury during training and will be out for the next few weeks The surgery went smoothly and I’m grateful for all the support and well wishes. I’m focused on my recovery and will come back stronger.

It is, for certain, a setback for the defender who was nailed on to be the go-to starter at right back for Vincent Kompany, especially considering that the Belgian manager has shown an interest in using Joshua Kimmich back in midfield. Not to mention, Noussair Mazraoui leaving for Manchester United along with Matthijs de Ligt lessened the competition at both right back and center back. Sacha Boey and Adam Anzou are the only remaining right backs left in the squad for Kompany.

The club has confirmed that they will not be going into the market to make a reactionary purchase to Stanišić’s injury, despite the fact that they will now be even lower on defensive depth. Hopefully, Stanišić’s recovery goes swimmingly and he is able to come back sooner rather than later, though it will be up to the club doctors and physios to ensure that he is ready and fit enough to return to action once that decision is made. The player himself does not have a bad track record when it comes to injuries, but it is something that is par for the course at Bayern and Kompany will not be impervious to having to deal with this type of thing, even before the first Bundesliga match week of the season.
