Baroka welcomed Richards Bay at Global Stadium, looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss against AmaTuks in the playoffs opener. The loss against Tuks was the last match for head coach Dan Malesela who has been placed on a ‘special leave’.

Bakgakga have since appointed Morgan Mammila as the interim coach to take over from Malesela, who led the team to a top-three finish in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Before taking over the coaching position at Baroka, Mammila was the technical director at Chippa United.

In the 2023/24 season, the Limpopo-based side won 12 games in the league, drew 11 and lost seven times. They collected 47 points in 30 matches in the second tier.

Baroka finished third on the log standings behind AmaTuks and Magesi FC who gained automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership as they won the second-tier league title.

The match between Baroka and Richards Bay got off to a slow start, with both sides failing to hit the target in the first 30 minutes of the match.

Baroka started to dominate in the closing minutes of the first half, however, they could not capitilise on their chances. In the second-half, Baroka kept pushing for an opening goal but they were let down by indecisive finishing in the final third.

Despite playing to a goalless draw against the 2018 Telkom Knockout Champions, Bay move to the summit of the playoffs table with four.

Tuks are in second place with three points, while Baroka sit third on the three-team log with one point.
