Barcelona - Manchester City - UEFA Women's Champions League ...
FULL TIME! BARCELONA 3-0 MANCHESTER CITY
Barcelona put on an excellent display as they beat Manchester City 3-0 at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys to pip their opponents to top spot in Group D of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Both sides finished on fifteen points from their six group games and progressed into the knockout stages, but Pere Romeu’s side secured the home quarter-final due to a better head-to-head record than City.
The hosts forced Khiara Keating into several excellent saves early on, before Claudia Pina gave them the lead right at the end of the first half, latching on to the ball in the box before firing into the corner.
Balon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati doubled Barcelona’s lead early in the second half, poking the ball past Keating following an excellent breakaway.
Substitute Alexia Putellas made it three with a brilliant strike from outside the box, as the reigning champions of the UEFA Women’s Champions League proved just too good for the English side.
Barcelona now travel to Costa Adeje Tenerife at the weekend in the Copa De La Reina, whilst City have a welcomed break until they face Ipswich in the FA Cup on the 12th of January.
