FC Barcelona's hotel was 'attacked' by Paris Saint-Germain fans in the middle of the night before the two teams meet each other in a Champions League quarterfinal first leg, as shown in a video uploaded to social media by CL Press.

In the caption to the clip on X, formerly known as Twitter, the agency explained that PSG supporters set off fireworks near the hotel where Xavi Hernandez and his squad were sleeping at around 04:10 AM local time on Wednesday morning.

Loud explosions and noises can be heard in the 24-second video, which shows whoever is recording it getting closer to the hotel which has a police presence outside the premises.

The tactic, reported as an 'attack' by the Catalan media, is commonly used in Europe and elsewhere in the world as a means of trying to disrupt the sleep of the visiting team while hoping it has an effect on their performance later on the pitch.

In this case, the incident comes after a PSG ultras group called on fans with tickets to watch their team in action at the Parc des Princes to create a "hostile" atmosphere for a "despicable" FC Barcelona "often favored by referees".

"It is our duty to make the Parc a terrifying fortress for our adversaries," demanded an official correspondence from the Collectif Ultras Paris.

"On Wednesday our team faces Barca. Our role will be crucial, and we ask everyone to help.

"Let's get to the stadium early, dress in red and blue, and make our opponents tremble as they jump onto the field for the warm-up," the group insisted.

Barca isn't believed to have the best record at the Parc des Princes but courage should be taken from a fantastic 3-1 quarterfinals win there in 2014/2015.

Now-PSG manager Luis Enrique led the Catalans that day, with a brilliant brace by Luis Suarez and another strike from Neymar greatly contributing to putting Barca on its way to lifting its last UCL title in Berlin.

Just a couple of seasons later, however, Barca lost 4-0 in the same ground but did reverse the last 16 scoreline with the famous 5-1 remontada which Luis Enrique also oversaw.
