By India Today Sports Desk: Mushfiqur Rahim had a record-breaking day in Sylhet on Monday, March 20 as the 35-year-old broke the country's record for the fastest ODI hundred. He got to the three-figure score in just 60 balls as Bangladesh registered their highest-ever total in ODIs, 349 for 6, taking down Ireland's bowling attack in the 2nd of a 3-match series.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who had given up T20Is after Bangladesh's early exit in Asia Cup last year, brought up his 9th ODI hundred and his first since May 2021 against Sri Lanka. Rahim broke Shakib AL Hasan's 14-year-old record with his 60-ball 100 not out in the 2nd ODI.

Bangladesh vs Ireland, 2nd ODI updates

Mushfiqur Rahim only walked into bat in the 34th over of the match when Bangladesh were at 190 for 4. The veteran batter smashed 14 boundaries and 2 sixes. During the course of the knock, Mushfiqur also went past 7000 runs in ODi cricket, becoming only the 3rd batter from the team to achieve the landmark after Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan.

Mushfiqur Rahim's return to form is great news for Bangladesh in the lead-up to the ODI World Cup in India. Rahim averaged just 23 in 12 matches, scoring just 230 runs, which included 2 fifties in 2022. However, the former captain has already scored 234 runs in 5 matches in the ongoing year at an average of close to 60.

It was another collective batting effort from Bangladesh as there were three batters with scores in excess of fifty. Tamim Iqbal, their captain, and Litton Das added 42 runs for the opening wicket before the former was run out for 23.

Litton and Najmul Hossain Shanto added 101 runs for the 2nd wicket with Das hitting 3 sixes and 3 boundaries for his 71-ball 70. However, Curtis Campher's wicket of Das helped Ireland come back into the match.

Shakib Al Hasan (17) and Shanto (73 off 77) went back in quick succession.

However, Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim stitched a 128-run partnership for the 5th wicket to take Bangladesh past 300. Hridoy hit 34-ball 49, days after hitting an 85-ball 92 in the first ODI.

Bangladesh had won the first ODI by 183 runs after posting their then-highest ODI total of 338 for 8 in 50 overs on Saturday.
