Bangladesh were 362/5 overnight, but some relentless bowling by the Afghan pacers with the second new ball completely caught the hosts by surprise. The Afghan pacers kept taking wickets with the second new ball and Bangladesh lost five wickets as they could add only 20 runs to their overnight tally. Nijat Masood bowled an excellent spell as he picked a five-wicket haul on his Test debut. The Bangladesh pacers were equally impressive with the new ball as they got rid of both the openers pretty early in the innings. Rahmat Shah got out towards the end of the session as Afghanistan were reduced to 35/3. Although Bangladesh couldn't add much to their day 1 total, the hosts still have enough runs on the board to trouble the opposition.
