Blistering temperatures to impact Austrian Grand Prix

Austrian Grand Prix

Aside from some rain that forced several of Thursday's planned driver interviews to be held indoors, the track action that followed on Friday and Saturday has been held under bright blue skies and in warm sunshine.

Max Verstappen has dominated the weekend so far in his Red Bull, with the three-time F1 champion scoring a sprint victory from pole position before claiming pole again for the grand prix.

Verstappen and his 19 rivals can have few concerns about the forecast for the race as there is zero per cent of rain.

However, the temperatures are set to be the highest of the weekend to date, hitting 29 degrees Celsius for the race start at 3pm local time [2pm UK].

That will lead to a blistering track temperature of 47 degrees, which will have a major impact on tyre wear and degradation, with the hard and medium compounds due to be predominantly used for a two-stop strategy race.

Wind will also be a factor, with southwesterly gusts of up to 45kph for the first part of the 71-lap race before easing over the second half.
