The La Liga match between Granada and Athletic Bilbao was abandoned following the death of a home season-ticket holder at Nuevo Los Carmenes stadium.
The game was halted in the 17th minute after an announcement that there was a “medical emergency” in the stands before the players and officials left the field 20 minutes later.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the fan, who suffered a cardiac arrest, before the game was called off an hour later.
Athletic were leading through an Inaki Williams strike, but La Liga confirmed the match had been postponed and would be replayed at a later date.
“Granada CF vs. Athletic Club de Bilbao has been suspended following the tragic death of a fan at the Estadio Nuevo los Carmenes,” the La Liga statement read.
“Our condolences go out to their family and friends, as well as to all Granada CF fans.
“A rescheduled date and time for the match will be announced in the near future.”
Both clubs were in agreement with the decision taken.
A social media post by Athletic, who sit sixth in the league, read: “La Liga and the two clubs have all agreed to call off the match due to the death of a fan at Los Cármenes.
“Athletic Club expresses its deepest condolences. Our thoughts are with the person's family and loved ones.”
Granada expressed their “most sincere condolences to the family and friends” of the fan on social media.
Granada, who are 19th in La Liga, travel to face fellow strugglers Celta Vigo next weekend, while Athletic welcome Atletico Madrid.
