Having lost 2-0 at Liverpool last time out in the Champions League, Real Madrid could really do with a win against Atalanta in Italy. Carlo Ancelotti's side goes into the sixth European matchday in 24th spot in the table — right on the borderline for qualification.
Atalanta is fifth in the Champions League having won three out of five European games so far. It drew 0-0 with Arsenal on matchday one and leads the way in Serie A having won 2-1 against AC Milan at San Siro over the weekend.
This won't be easy for Real Madrid, as a result, but Ancelotti and his team also have Red Bull Salzburg and Brest in January if they need to get a couple more wins on the board to edge through. Few would bet against that happening if it came to it.

Real Madrid has a slightly eased injury list compared to when it lost against Liverpool with Vinicius Jr now back. Fellow Brazilian forward Rodrygo is also back in contention.
Eduardo Camavinga has a hamstring problem, though, and the first-choice defense of Ferland Mendy, David Alaba, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal are all missing. Atalanta will be without Gianluca Scamacca, Giogio Scalvini and Juan Cuadrado.
