DOMINANT ASTON VILLA DEEPEN MAN CITY'S WOES WITH CONVINCING WIN OVER CHAMPIONS
Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers were on target as Aston Villa increased the pressure on Pep Guardiola with a deserved 2-1 victory over struggling Manchester City at Villa Park.
The Colombian hitman, Duran, made it four goals in his last four outings when he polished off a sublime move involving the outstanding Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers on 16 minutes.
City were fortunate not to have fallen behind earlier with Stefan Ortega producing wonderful saves to keep out Duran and Pau Torres inside two minutes.
Villa continued to offer the greater threat and Rogers struck a deserved second goal on 65 minutes to seal the points, with Phil Foden's stoppage-time strike flattering the visitors.
The result sees Villa climb above Man City into fifth spot ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures. The champions drop to sixth – a point further back - and have now lost nine of their last 12 matches in all competitions.

ASTON VILLA'S PLAYER OF THE MATCH YOURI TIELEMANS SPEAKS TO TNT SPORTS POST-MATCH
Asked if it was a day everything went right for Villa during a 1-2-1 chat on the pitch, Tielemans said: ‘Yeah, apart from the goal we conceded right at the end. It was such an unlucky goal to concede, we just tripped over the ball. But I think the performance overall was really good. We fought together, we defended really well and when we attacked we did the right things. We made the right passes, the right choices. It was a good performance."
On Onana and Kamara's presence giving him the freedom to get forward: "Yeah, that was the plan, to have them behind and lock everything up at the back. I think the guys at the back did a really good job today. For me, going forward I felt happier with them behind me."
On his wonderful turn a pass that pre-assisted the opening goal:" I saw the space and knew I had the space in-behind their midfielders. I saw I was alone and asked for the ball. I turned and played the pass into space and he (Duran) finished it brilliantly.
On Man City's recent troubles and if it made it a different task facing the champion to that of previous years: "It’s always difficult. We know that they maybe haven’t won as much as they have in the past few years, but they are a class side and it’s credit to us that we showed great character and a good performance. I think we were really good."
THE TNT SPORTS EXPERTS REACT TO ASTON VILLA'S OUTSTANDING VICTORY
PETER CROUCH: "It was so impressive, honestly, it really was. They got through so much work. Defensively they knew their jobs, they looked like a well-drilled team. Morgan Rogers, Tielemans in there ... getting through so much work. Jhon Duran got the nod today and got the goal.
"It was so impressive all over the park and they fully deserved the win."
JOLEON LESCOTT: "Tactically it was spot on. But the execution of the players – not just the work ethic but the composure in possession, the belief and confidence…
"Villa to a man were outstanding for multiple reasons. You have to give them all of the credit today."
A MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR VILLA AS CITY’S CRISIS DEEPENS
It just gets worse for Pep Guardiola. Manchester City have now lost NINE of their last 12 matches across all comps, with just one victory over Nottingham Forest during their wretched run.
Title hopes over? Guardiola’s reigning champions have already lost SIX Premier League matches this season and are nine points behind leaders Liverpool having played two games more.
In contrast, Villa make it four wins from their last five in all competitions, having previously been on an eight-match winless run.
The result sees Villa move above Man City into fifth spot in the PL, level on points with fourth-placed Forest ahead of the rest of the weekend’s top-flight action. City are a point further back in sixth.
Aston Villa have recorded back-to-back home league wins over Man City for the first time since 1993 courtesy of just a second victory in their last 18 matches versus The Citizens.
Next up, Manchester City host Everton on Boxing Day. Aston Villa visit Newcastle.

The Norwegian has been starved of service. He tries to take matters into his own hands and battle through two defenders, but Martinez comes flying off his line to dive on the loose ball.
A smart turn from Foden opens up the opportunity for another strike at goal, but his long-range effort is easily held by Martinez.
TNT SPORTS CO-COMMENTATOR ALLY MCCOIST HAILS VILLA'S SECOND GOAL OF THE AFTERNOON
"Before we talk about the finish, what a run from Tielemans – not for the first time. The finish, the execution, is wonderful. John McGinn unselfishly makes a good decision. But the run from Tielemans outside McGinn makes all the space inside.
"The finish is excellent, McGinn makes the right choice. Rogers hits it early – that’s the secret. Great finish, great goal, and it’s no more than they deserve."
