Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna Stats: Unai Emery’s Men Continue Unblemished UCL Start

Unai Emery’s continue to look at home in the UEFA Champions League. Re-live their latest win with the best facts and Opta data in our Aston Villa vs Bologna stats page.

Aston Villa equalled a club record of three successive wins in the European Cup/Champions League as their 100% start to the 2024-25 European campaign continued with a 2-0 win over Bologna.

In front of an expectant Villa Park crowd on Tuesday, Unai Emery’s men became only the third side in Champions League history to win each of their first three games in the competition without conceding.

It took them a while to break the Bologna resistance, however, and they needed a hint of fortune as John McGinn’s right-wing free-kick evaded everyone and went all the way in with 55 minutes on the clock.

An instinctive Jhon Dúran finish nine minutes later ultimately sealed victory, with the Colombian’s goal just his second of the season as a starter.

The victory also ensured Emery became only the fifth Spanish coach to reach 25 wins in the Champions League.
