3 best Arsenal vs Man Utd games of the Mikel Arteta era
Arsenal head to Old Trafford on Sunday in arguably their most crucial encounter with Manchester United in recent history. Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a similar result to previous matches he has managed against the Red Devils.
Since becoming Gunners boss in 2019, the Spaniard has overseen eight games against Man United, winning five of these and losing only two.
Of the eight games Arteta has managed against United, there are three that stand out as the best during his time as Arsenal boss and here they are in no particular order.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and an abysmal run of form, Arsenal headed to Old Trafford in desperate need of a win. A second-half Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty secured Mikel Arteta's second win against Man United and the Gunners' first away to their rivals in the league since 2006.
Although not a brilliant performance, it was great in terms of context as it helped Arteta at a time when his position was under great scrutiny. It also showed that despite previous results, Arsenal could indeed beat Man United in their own backyard.
Stellar performances from a midfield duo of Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey helped Arsenal to the win and showed very early glimpses of the brilliant setup Mikel Arteta has built at the club in the years since.
