April

It’s official … spring has sprung! As the academic year nears its end, fill your calendar with this semester’s FINAL events and activities. Sign up for unforgettable experiences like meeting Emmy winner Quinta Brunson, or joining fellow Owls on our first-ever bike ride from Main Campus to Temple Ambler. Or drop in for regularly scheduled activities such as Net Night!

Meet & greet: Kevin Negandhi

Aspiring sports journalists and ESPN enthusiasts, take note: Klein alum Kevin Negandhi will be participating in an interactive discussion with students! Negandhi, a co-anchor for ESPN’s SportsCenter, has made significant waves in the sports media landscape, notably as the first Indian American in a major sports network role. This event presents a unique opportunity for students to gain insights into Negandhi’s journey from Temple Owl to esteemed sports media legend.

Shaping storytellers 

For aspiring professionals interested in children’s media, we have just the event for you! The Children’s Media Career Symposium invites interested students to hear from senior executives from Nickelodeon, PBS Kids and more! Whether you’re interested in animation, storytelling, production, writing or educational content, the symposium offers something for all attendees to explore. 

When: Thursday, April 4, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Annenberg Hall Atrium 
 

Igniting innovation

Highlighting undergraduate research, the Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creativity is a daylong event showcasing student research projects. Through its emphasis on original research and creative work, the symposium seeks to inspire students to analyze, critique and engage with the world around them.

When: Thursday, April 11, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

From recording rookie to editing expert

Interested in video editing, but not sure where to start? Offering beginner-level editing instruction, Temple University Libraries’ Video Recording and Editing Workshop will provide a general overview of video and audio editing techniques using Adobe Premiere Pro. 

For the full experience, level up! Register for the following week’s course, participating in a hands-on practice through live demonstration. Build a video from scratch and master new skills including special effects, text and more.

Pedal power

Calling all cyclists! This year, Temple University Ambler and the Temple University Office of Sustainability are hosting the very first Temple University Bike Tour. Traveling a 22-mile route from Main Campus to Temple Ambler, the bike tour will guide participants through Fairmount, Wissahickon and Fort Washington state parks. At the conclusion of the journey, the Ambler Arboretum is hosting a celebration! All funds raised during the event will go towards supporting Temple Ambler. 

When: Sunday, April 28, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where creativity shines: Diamond Screen Film and Media Arts Festival 

This April marks the 21st annual Diamond Screen Festival, showcasing work created by up-and-coming filmmakers and media artists in Temple’s program. The event highlights a vast range of creative film and media, from documentaries to experimental films. Who knows, we might witness the rise of (yet another) Temple Owl turned Emmy winner! 

When: Tuesday, April 30, 5 p.m.

Meet & greet: Quinta Brunson

For the Abbott Elementary fans, this year’s 2024 Lew Klein Excellence in the Media awardee (AND Commencement speaker) is Quinta Brunson! Making history as the first Black woman to win the Best Comedic Actress Emmy in over 40 years, Brunson is known for her creativity and humor. Brunson will be leading a student conversation, and sharing her career journey with attendees. 

When: Tuesday, May 7, 3–4 p.m.

Find an opportunity to drop in for some of our favorite regularly scheduled events and activities.

Brewing cultural communities 

Looking for your next coffee chat? Temple’s Office of Global Engagement hosts International Coffee Hour events monthly, with this April’s spotlight on Nepal. Join the event to socialize with attendees and learn from student leaders who will share their country’s rich culture and history. As a bonus, each International Coffee Hour provides a cultural food to try!

Branch out and volunteer

Craving some much-needed time outside? Temple’s Ambler Campus is home to a 187-acre arboretum, featuring a variety of gardens. Throughout April, Ambler welcomes volunteers to help the horticulture staff maintain the arboretum’s gardens. 

When: Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m.–noon  (plus additional dates!)

Stronger together

Looking to explore weight training? On the fourth Saturday of every month, the Aramark STAR (Student Training and Recreation) Complex hosts Ladies Lift, inviting women to engage in early-morning weight training with the support of fellow women.

When: Saturday, April 20, 6 a.m.

Where: Weight room, Aramark STAR Complex

Weekly wellness 

Practice self-care by checking in weekly with The Wellness Resource Center. Every Tuesday, Tuttleman Counseling Services hosts walk-in hours, creating an open space to ask questions, access guidance and ensure your well-being.

When: Tuesdays, 12:30–2 p.m.

Where: Wellness Resource Center, Howard Gittis Student Center, Room 201

Serve, spike, socialize

Dedicate your Friday to fitness that’s fun! Every week, Campus Rec hosts Net Night, creating a space for activities including volleyball, badminton and table tennis. Invite friends and assemble your game plan!

When: Fridays, 7–10 p.m.
