Cape Town Spurs were unable to bag a second win in the DStv Premiership after a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday night.

Ethan Brooks was the host’ sole change from the win over Sekhukhune United with Celimpilo Ngema on the bench, while Lubeni Haukongo started seconds before kick-off as Rushwin Dortley picked up an injury in the warm-up.

Both teams were conservative a littler after kick-off with very limited clear-cut opportunities presented and instead lots of possession turnovers.

It soon changed though as chances either side saw Wayde Jooste sneaked from the blind side to bring a point-blank save off Neil Boshoff.

Then, at the other end the Urban Warriors watched an unmarked Chumani Butsaka pull wide to the area to get a shot in which stung the gloves of Olwethu Mzimela.

Spurs did go ahead on the stroke of halftime when a high ball from a corner-kick went over the entire defence and had youngster Luuk Baartman take charge with a pin-point finish off the head.

Brooks unfortunately didn’t come out for the second half and was replaced by Ngema before Rowan Huma slotted in for Tshepang Moremi to an injured Sede Dion removed for Augustine Kwem.

Spurs continued to show great fight and very nearly got a second when Baartman threatened a brace through a first-time shot after stealing possession high-up, but Mzimela palmed onto the post.

The host battled in a desperate search to claw back on level terms, as the Urban Warriors showed a lot energy and intensity to hold on tight.

Usuthu got back on level terms when a cutback into the area from Mlondi Mbanjwa rolled perfectly for Ngema to apply a powerful firs-time finish ten minutes from time.

The two teams couldn’t be separated amidst a lively later couple of minutes, as the Urban Warriors bagged just their fourth point of the season.
