AmaZulu Target Pirates Duo - iDiski Times

AmaZulu are interested in on-loan Moroka Swallows striker Tshegofatso Mabasa and left-back Bongani Sam.

Both players belong to Orlando Pirates but are with the Dube Birds until the end of the season as was the agreement.

“AmaZulu is interested in Mabasa,” said Mogashoa in an exclusive interview with iDiski Times.

“Remember Mabasa is not our player, he is a Pirates player. You must understand he is not returning to Pirates; he has to go via Pirates.

“Because I saw somewhere that Pirates might recall him, he has to go via Pirates to wherever he is going and, in this case, it is AmaZulu.

“There is a conversation between themselves and Pirates. From my side, he is not my player, he is on loan, I’m releasing him back to the sender and the sender must decide what they do with him.

“But those talks are still ongoing, so we have not signed off anything but talks are going on that he is going to AmaZulu.

“AmaZulu is not only interested in him – they are also interested in Bongani Sam.”

If they go to AmaZulu, Swallows will lose two key players in the upcoming window as Mabasa is tied second in the goal-scoring charts in the league with six goals, with his last interestingly coming against AmaZulu when he scored a brace on 29 September at Dobsonville Stadium. He has featured in 15 matches in all competitions.

Sam has also featured in 15 matches in all competitions for the Dube Birds.

“If that happens, let it be,” Mogashoa responded when asked how he will cope with losing two key players, who score goals and are hard working at the back.

“The club can at least go where it is supposed to be – run smoothly and you can tell me about the grant that was paid on the 15 December.”

Swallows are involved in a huge standoff with the players, who requested to be paid before Christmas, but that didn’t happen.

It led to the club requesting the PSL to cancel their two matches against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday and that against Golden Arrows at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.

Magoshoa told iDiski Times that the players are going to be paid at the end of this month and the players are aware of that as per the contracts they signed.

The dispute has seen AmaZulu jump at the opportunity to request to sign Mabasa and Sam respectively from Pirates.

Should Sam join Usuthu when the PSL transfer window opens next month, in that case, Riaan Hanamub could become available with Pirates keen admirers of the Namibia international wing-back.

Pirates have struggled in that position with captain Innocent Maela and Paseko Mako suffering injuries this season, leading Deon Hotto into a makeshift full-back role.
