Amazulu produced a vintage first-half performance to dismantle a lackluster Royal AM 3-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
All the goals were scored in the opening period as Augustine Kwem found the back net twice while Mondli Mbanjwa was the other home player who got on the scoresheet.
Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane was selected in the starting line-up by coach John Maduka for the first time this season and it is fair to say it did not go well.
Mpisane was totally out of is depth and hardly touched ball as Usuthu dominated from the start. They opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Mbanjwa hit a sweet volley.
The hosts then doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark when Kwem was on the end of a cut-back and scored with his second attempt.
The forward was certainly enjoying himself against what looked like a disinterested visiting side and completed his brace five minutes later.
Mpisane was replaced at half-time as Maduka had clearly seen enough, and Royal AM immediately looked a better outfit as a result.
The improvement was not enough though as AmaZulu saw out the rest of the contest without conceding to claim maximum points.
The victory lifts Usuthu up to seventh in the DStv Premiership standings after their fifth win of the campaign while Royal AM sit in 13th position.
