Rape survivor Alison Botha suffers medical setback

South Africans are opening their hearts and wallets following the news that Gqeberha's rape survivor Alison Botha suffered a brain aneurysm.

A trust has since been set up since Botha's aneurysm two weeks ago.

Alison made national headlines in 1994 when she was raped, disembowelled, stabbed multiple times and nearly decapitated.

She was left for dead near Schoenmakerskop and crawled to the main road where a good samaritan came to her aid.

Her attackers Frans Du Toit and Theyns Kruger were released on parole last year.

Botha, who had no medical aid, is now unable to earn an income

Botha's legal representative Tania Koen says Alison's medical condition is very serious and if she gets discharged her life will never be the same again.

She says Botha would initially need 24-hour care.

A Trust account at Nedbank has since been established in Alison's name.

Botha is at an undisclosed public hospital in the country.

Koen said no information of her whereabouts will be divulged to protect her safety.

Alison's harrowing journey was turned into a best-selling novel and a documentary released in 2016.
