Ahmedabad airport sees record no. of passengers on World Cup final day
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport saw a whopping 40,801 passengers on a day the men’s ODI World Cup final was played in Ahmedabad Sunday.
The airport surpassed its previous record — attained on November 18 — of serving 38,723 passengers.
The airport also handled 359 flight movements Sunday — the highest ever — breaking its previous record of 273 flight movements made a day prior, according to the official statement. “The airport recorded more than 260 scheduled and 99 non-scheduled air traffic movements. Of the 40,801 passengers who travelled through SVPI airport, 33,642 were domestic passengers, and 7,159 were international passengers,” the statement further stated.
The record was achieved in 23 hours after the airspace was closed for more than 45 minutes due to an air show by the Indian Air Force, it added.
