Bafana Bafana overcome Morocco in AFCON qualifiers
Bafana Bafana cruised past Morocco in the AFCON qualifiers on Saturday 17 June at FNB Stadium.
Hugo Broos’ side displayed a great performance as they won 2-1.
The victory saw South Africa climb to the summit of Group K table. They have accumulated seven points from four matches.
BAFANA BAFANA DOMINANCEIn the opening minutes of the match both sides showed attacking intentions. The hosts were the first to open the scoring through an own goal.
Bafana BafanaGoalkeeper Munir Mohamedi scored an own goal in the fifth minute.
Moments later, Bafana were on attack as Innocent Maela tried to find Mihlali Mayambela, however the through pass was intercepted before reaching the intended target.
Three minutes later, Mayambela almost doubled the lead, but his shot was off target.
Just after the quarter hour mark, the visitors had their first real chance. Youssef En-Nesyri’s effort was saved by Ronwen Williams.
Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane was the next to try his luck but completely missed the target.
The Atlas Lions started to gain some momentum towards the half hour mark as Imran Louza and En-Nesyri went close to levelling the scoreline.
Just before the break, Morocco made an early change as Noussair Mazraoui went off because of an injury. Anass Zaroury came in.
BAFANA BAFANA IN CRUISE CONTROLZakhele Lepasa had the last chance to double the Bafana’s advantage before the break, but his effort didn’t trouble the man in between the sticks.
Three minutes into the second half striker Zakhele Lepasa double the lead for the home side from close range.
On the hour mark in was game one as the 2022 FIFA World Cup finalists got back into the match as Hakim Ziyech pulled one back.
Bafana tried to get an immediate response but Lepasa missed the target. Jawad El Yamiq almost made it 2-2 but his strike was saved.
The scoreline remained unchanged for the remainder of the match as Bafana claimed a famous victory against Morocco.
