The Sharks became the first South African team to qualify for a European rugby semi-final when they beat Edinburgh 36-30 in their Challenge Cup quarter-final at Kings Park on Saturday.
By virtue of being the highest-ranked team in the tournament, the Sharks will stay at home for the semi-finals, where they’ll host French club Clermont in the first weekend of May.
The Sharks were reliant on three tries from Lukhanyo Am, James Venter and Bongi Mbonambi, from where Edinburgh replied with tries from Pierre Schoeman, Hamish Watson and Dave Cherry.
The point of difference was Siya Masuku, who shrugged off an early missed penalty to grab 15 points from the boot. He was man-of-the-match as the Sharks continued to find form and hunt for a place in next season's Champions Cup, which they can only earn through winning the Challenge Cup.
Sharks 36 (14)
Tries: Lukhanyo Am, James Venter, Bongi Mbonambi
Conversions: Siya Masuku (3)
Penalties: Masuku (3), Curwin Bosch
Edinburgh 30 (16)
