Kavitha Reddy: Curro Teacher Fired For Asking Student To Stop ...

Kavitha Reddy, head of life sciences at Curro Vanderbijlpark in South Africa, was fired in March 2023 after asking a student to stop laughing 'like an idiot'. She addressed her firing for the first time, calling it 'utterly unfair', News24 reported on Thursday. This comes a month after Curro Academy Protea Glen in Soweto fired a Black English and history teacher who was called a monkey by the axed white executive head last year.

Reddy, according to the News24 report, was called out before a disciplinary hearing and found guilty of misconduct. She was charged for the incident that took place in a Grade 11 class on 16 February 2023. Her conduct, in front of other students in the class, was called 'unbecoming of an educator'.

Several social media users reacted to Reddy's dismissal. "If Curro real dismisses kavith Reddy for calling school pupil an idiot then, all my schooling teachers were supposed to be dismissed non-stop and throughout mos. its like telling mom not to tell her child to stop singing like something ????????" one person said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

"Curro and woke.. seems a match. The teachers here are totally disrespected and dealing with brats. Kudos to this teacher for not taking it and speaking truth. Bring back corporal punishment. Lots of kids suffer from inflated egos as a result of not learning consequence," another one added.

Reports last month said that Nonkululeko Gwatyu, who was called a monkey by a former department head at Curro Academy Protea Glen, was allegedly dismissed for coming late to school and taking a leave.
