Virgil van Dijk was equally frustrated in defeat, but he had a slightly more positive outlook.
"It hurts of course. We haven't lost here for a long time. But we shouldn't take the credit away from them," he told TNT Sports. "They punished us for being sloppy in possession. We still had chances to score one or two and unfortunately we didn't.
"If you don't believe, there's no point going to Italy. We have made it very hard for ourselves going there 3-0 down.
"We need everyone to switch it back on. Then we can focus on putting out at least four goals over there."

A shocked Klopp faced the cameras after the first leg and you could tell he had been taken aback by his side conceding a three-goal first-leg defeat.
"Unfortunately there is nothing really positive to say about the game," he told TNT Sports. "We scored one (goal) that was offside but it was a bad game from us. Atalanta had a good game, scored three goals and deserved to win.
"I know already if we do a couple of things better, we will be better. Can we win it back? Yes, if we play good it is possible. Can we win 3-0? I have no idea.
"But this feels really bad and that's important. That was a bad performance and that's how it is. That's how we lost. It feels always in this moment that they are through but until we play, they are not."

The Europa League draw gave Liverpool home advantage in the first leg, but that was an advantage they were not able to capitalise on.
In fact, it couldn't have gone much worse for Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield last Thursday.
They were punished for missing chances in the first half when Gianluca Scamacca's 38th-minute shot squirmed underneath Caoimhin Kelleher and into the back of the net. And seconds before the game reached the hour mark, the former West Ham striker was perfectly placed to double his side's advantage, converting Charles De Ketelaere's cross.
Liverpool's dismal night was made even worse when Mario Pasalic scored from the rebound of Ederson's saved shot to make it 3-0.
A huge lead to take into the second leg for the Italians.

Not quite one of European football's great cathedrals, but a hive of atmosphere nonetheless.
It is a far cry from what Liverpool are used to in Europe and compared with Premier League stadiums, only Brentford, Luton and Bournemouth play in front of fewer fans.
